Alessandro de Chiara

Alessandro is an applied microeconomist with a wide range of research interests, spanning from public procurement and regulation to industrial organisation, competition policy, law and economics, and behavioural economics.

His research has focused on the role played by informal agreements in buyer-supplier relationships, procurement auctions, and the design of prudential regulation and supervision of the financial sector. Alessandro has presented his research at international conferences and seminars at leading universities, such as MIT, Boston University, the University of Mannheim, and Universitat Pompeu Fabra. His work has been published in international peer-reviewed journals (Journal of Economic Behavior and Organisation and the Journal of Financial Stability). In 2016, Alessandro was awarded the Göran Skogh Award for the best paper presented by a young scholar at the 33rd Annual Conference of the European Association of Law and Economics (EALE).

His recent research interests include the economics of online platforms and news aggregators, and the design of public procurement policies to promote socially-valuable innovations.

Alessandro has been an Assistant Professor in Economics at the Department of Economics and Business at Central European University since August 2015. At CEU, he has taught courses in microeconomics and organisational economics to both economics and business students.

Alessandro holds a Ph.D. in Economics from ECARES (Université libre de Bruxelles), where he was an FNRS research fellow, and has held visiting position at the MIT Sloan School of Business (Visiting Ph.D. Student) and at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Visiting Scholar).
