Cyril Hariton’s presentations at Toulouse School of Economics
Cyril Hariton participated in the Buziness Talk series of Toulouse School of Economics on the 1st of February and, on the following day, he led a special class for students in the second year of TSE’s Master in Economics and Competition Law.
During the Business Talk, Cyril used the example of two cases Positive Competition has worked on to illustrate how theoretical knowledge learned at the university is applicable to real-life situations. The first example showed how optimisation techniques can help design remedies for a merger with local issues. The second example depicted how statistical methods, such as clustering, can contribute to the evidence of harm in the context of an abuse of dominance between digital platforms.
The student class allowed for an in-depth presentation of the recent MOL/OMV merger before the European Commission and focused on guiding students in identifying the appropriate approach and tools to address real-life economic questions related to assessing the effect of an acquisition. The presentation focused in particular on the appropriate treatment of local markets, on the design of remedies with local markets, and on models of competition in discounts.
